Everyone has their own reason for wearing a facemask, we make sure you get the facemask you need. Unlike many local supermarkets, other online stores and even pharmacies, our medical facemasks fulfill the European medical standards that are applicable in Europe. With this at hand you can purchase medical face masks with verifiable knowledge that they fulfill the applicable standards, 'EN 14683' or 'EN 149'. See the bottom of this page to read more about the differences between different type of facemasks. We supply everything from respirator facemasks, to re-usable cloth masks for situations that are less dire!

Facemasks – a crashcourse for European countries

Clothmasks, also referred to as non-medical masks, fabric masks or homemade masks
Nordic Supply Houses's clothmasks are washable and therefore re-usable. Since they are not tested according to 'Medical Devices' (MD) or 'Personal Protective Equipment' (PPE) directives, we do claim they provide the user with a reliable protection against COVID-19. The CDC in the United States do however deem clothmasks as “most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings.”, read more from their webpage, https://bit.ly/3anIgIJ.

Medical masks, also referred to as surgical masks or facemasks
Different regions in the world use different standards to ensure facemasks are suitable in a healthcare professional environment. In Europe, the applicable standard is EN 14683:2019 (2019 being the latest edition). Our different facemask fulfills the standard EN 14683:2019 to different levels. The lowest level is ‘Type I’, and the highest level is ‘Type IIR’. Type I has a ‘Bacterial Filtration Efficiency’ (BFE) of 95% or higher. ‘Type IIR’ has a ‘Bacterial Filtration Efficiency’ (BFE) of 98% or higher and is also splash resistant. According to the CDC, medical facemasks “reduce the respiratory droplets from the wearer to others and to the environment. They also prevent transmission of the virus from others to the wearer.”. Nordic Supply House offer both Type I and Type IIR. Read more on WHO:s website under the headline “What types of masks are used against the spread of COVID-19?”, https://bit.ly/2DSyjXN.

Respirator face masks, also referred to as KN95 mask, N95 mask or FFP2 mask
Respirators are used mainly by healthcare professionals as they give the highest amount of protection of the three different type of facemasks, given that the respirators are used correctly. Just as with the medical masks, there are different standards for different regions. FFP2 refers to the standard applicable in Europe, KN95 refers to the standard applicable in many countries in Asia, and N95 (NIOSH) refers to the standards applicable in USA. Nordic Supply House's respirators fulfill the standard FFP2 for Europe.

Genuine products
With the increased demand of PPE during the start of the pandemic, the market was flooded with counterfeit products that still circulate the market. Counterfeit products may look the same, but are not tested according to European standards, and its protection-efficacy is not guaranteed. The best way to identify these facemasks is by checking the box for the CE-logotype, and that the applicable standard, EN 14683 or EN 149, is printed on the package. Furthermore, it is important that the importing vendor has received the 'Document of Conformity' from the manufacturer - this document is verified together with the products at the customs in each country in Europe. If the product does not contain the CE logotype together with either 'EN 14683' or 'EN 149', the products may not be subjected to any medical standard and may therefore pass the customs without being verified. You can ask the vendor to provide the 'Document of Conformity' to verify that the product matches the documentation verified by the customs control.

Our own experience is unfortunately that it is more common than not, that the products in supermarkets and online-stoes do not meet the medical standards set in Europe. Our own CE documentation is provided by request by e-mailing to info@nordicsupplyhouse.com
